Soft Furnishings: Wafty, Linen Look Curtains in Neutrals
Our client lives in a beautiful old house in Linden with wooden flooring, large rooms and large, grand wooden French doors.
What She Needed
She wanted to create a bit of privacy in the living room and bedroom, as well as protect her wooden floors and furniture from the harsh sun. Thick and heavy, block-out curtains would have undermined the home’s open, airy feel however, so she was looking for a sheer, natural linen look.
What We Suggested
We were careful to find curtaining that had the natural, wafty look of linen, but would be able to stand up slightly better against the sun, so we suggested two fabrics from Stuart Graham Fabrics’ Atmosphere collection: Question: Silvery, for the bedroom and Cloud: Linen, for the living room.
The client requested wave tape curtains in the bedroom, but we opted for eyelets in the living room, which fit in better with existing curtains there. In contrast the simple nature of the fabric, all the curtains were made up to form a lavish break of fabric on the floor.
We added a partial block-out on the deep grey bedroom curtains. This created privacy during the day without losing the light look of sheers, while blocking out all traces of light at night to ensure a restful sleep.
This collection is incredibly versatile with different textured plains and various stripes in a range of natural colourways. They’re a durable 100% polyester, but feel soft and luxurious. In addition, they’re 280cm wide (it’s surprising how many narrow curtain fabrics you’ll find), which meant there was plenty for us to use it vertically - even with the floor-to-ceiling length and added pool at the bottom. The result? Curtains exactly as wide as you want them to be.
For these reasons, the Atmosphere collection is our go-to book for light, summery curtaining – just what you need in SA.
