Zoe's Fireplace - Decor-In-A-Box
Zoe had an awkward little corner between her living room and dining room that had a marvellously homely little fireplace, red oriental rug, wrought iron chandelier and blue and red velvet wingback armchairs. Unfortunately it ended up being a dumping place for a lot of random little things and she wanted to tie the space together and create a warm, cozy nook to spend winter evenings in.
We helped her do this by working with the colours already present - blue and red - and tying it together with natural, African inspired decor in neutral tones. This also tied in well with the neutral tones in the living room right next to it.
An option of natural baskets or woven black storage boxes was suggested to keep things tidy and a custom-made ottoman that turns into a storage box also doubled as a coffee stand. A coffee table with storage space at the bottom could be used for games, while a black woven basket could be used for magazines or wood to keep the fire going.
A tall reading lamp with a neutral shade picked up on the existing chandelier while creating a functional feature and balancing the fireplace and bookrack on the other side. Lastly, the star of this Decor-In-A-Box design, the Euro-African design scatters that pick up beautifully on the lights and baskets, while toning and marrying the red and blue chairs.
Kgali's Very Own Bedroom_ Decor-In-A-Box
This client contacted us to create a magical bedroom for her little girl that would encourage her to sleep in her own bed. Kgali is a girls’ kind of girl who likes pinks, processes and having her nails done at the spa.
We worked with her favourite colours, pink and purple, but also added complimentary greens to create a relaxing environment. We suggested she pain the walls a very soft minty green to stimulate brain development and create a peaceful sleep and play environment. Because of the large surface area of walls it means the green colour has the opportunity to have a large impact while creating a contrasting background where the pink trim and accessories can pop.
Crystal door hooks for her school bag and gown helps her keep her space organised, while enhancing the Enchanted Princess Spa theme. A purple ottoman doubles as a step ladder and vanity chair for her princess style mirror and a champaign shaggy rug provides the perfect balance of comfort and class.
Finally, a tiara decal above her bed sporting her very own name should make any little girl want to spend large amounts of time in her bed.
Zoe's Bedroom - Decor-In-A-Box
Zoe wanted to create a stylish, comfortable haven in her bedroom which she never got around to decorating. She decided to go with a Wind In The Willows book theme, but wanted to add just a touch of guest house luxury to that. To this end we worked with a natural colour pallet of light watery blue, mossy green, wood brown and a touch of deep purple.
First off, we lavished her bed with rich, cotton and feather scatters and silver velvet scatters for trim. These also tie in well with the brushed bronze bedside lamps, clock (she needed help getting ready on time in the mornings), custom made silver-on-raw-wood wall mounted hooks (she also needed some help keeping things tidy) and brushed silver mirror.
Further forest and water themed scatter options were provided, as well as a faux fur throw to make the bed even more inviting and reference the furry creatures from The Wind In The Willows. A willow bonzai and custom-made willow prints in earth tones and raw wood further drove the theme home while a bamboo venetian blind covered an awkwardly shaped window next to the bed.
